Today, HMHB is working on the front lines of translating research and curating knowledge to promote evidence-based advocacy agendas that help inform and engage national decision-makers, funders, and implementors. Building an understanding among decision-makers and implementers of the importance of maternal nutrition and maternal nutrition interventions is key for long-term success. HMHB provides critical knowledge and fills information gaps among key stakeholders through the dissemination of evidence-based resources, country experiences, and lessons learned from implementation research.

Improving maternal nutrition status is foundational for healthy and strong families, communities, and economically self-reliant countries.

Key Activities

  • Knowledge Generation

  • Knowledge Translation

  • Knowledge Dissemination

  • Advocacy

Knowledge Generation

HMHB hosts Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) to synthesize emerging research, develop guidance, and address implementation challenges for multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) and balanced energy and protein (BEP) dietary supplementation.

In collaboration with UNICEF, HMHB collects and analyzes global data on MMS and BEP implementation across LMICs, updating country profiles on the HMHB World Map.

Knowledge Translation

HMHB creates and hosts a range of tools and resources, including the World Map of Activities and Advocacy Resource Center, which houses policy briefs, FAQs, advocacy toolkits, and EML application templates for national actors. It also provides customized technical assistance and advisory support to governments to accelerate national adoption and scale-up.

Knowledge Dissemination

HMHB disseminates the latest information and knowledge on maternal nutrition and evidence-based interventions through webinars and expert dialogues, technical conferences, interactive platforms, communities of practice, newsletters, and social media platforms. The Knowledge Hub, a central, multimedia repository of multilingual resources, makes critical findings accessible to researchers, decision-makers, and implementers.

Advocacy

HMHB’s leadership and participation in global and regional convenings brings key stakeholders together to drive collective action. Campaigns such as ‘Further with 15’ and calls to action empower national actors to advocate for greater investments and policy change for maternal nutrition. Women’s Voices films showcase real-life experiences of pregnant women in resource-poor settings to a wide range of audiences, and blogs call for collective action from national and international decision-makers.
