30 September 2025 – A new publication, Acceptability of Antenatal Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) Compared to Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) Supplementation in Pregnant Individuals: A Narrative Review, by Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Consortium (HMHB) and partners, published in Nutrients, adds to the growing body of evidence supporting multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) in pregnancy. The review synthesizes global research showing that MMS is widely accepted and often preferred by pregnant women compared to traditional iron–folic acid (IFA) supplements. Women reported fewer or comparable side effects, better tolerance, and greater perceived health benefits when taking MMS, citing factors such as improved energy levels, ease of use, and overall satisfaction.

Importantly, the review introduces a comprehensive framework for assessing supplement acceptability, emphasizing that women’s experiences, shaped by social, cultural, and sensory factors, play a critical role in the success of maternal nutrition programs. By centering women’s voices, the study underscores that program design must go beyond biological efficacy to include user experience and context-specific needs, ultimately improving adherence and health outcomes.
