Summary: Phase 2. Pilot/Implementation Research & Program Design

Yemen’s BEP supplement delivery has been ongoing in parallel with its Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) treatment services and integrated into health systems, with recent programming highlighted in 2022–2023.
When the Global Nutrition Cluster report (2023) was published, Yemen was implementing plans to scale up Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programmes (TSFP) for pregnant and lactating women and girls across the whole country. These programmes provide BEP supplements in the form of Wheat Soya Blend Plus (WSB+) up to 6 months postpartum, and a MUAC cut-off point of 23 cm is used for individual targeting.
Programmes for the prevention of malnutrition use a smaller dose of WSB+ and their geographical targeting criteria include data from Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) and Integrated Food Security Phase CLassification Acute Food Insecurity (IPC AFI).
