Summary: Phase 2. Pilot/Implementation Research & Program Design

South Sudan has included BEP supplements in both emergency and protracted settings since at least 2020, with delivery aligned to Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Phase 4 and famine risk areas.
When the Global Nutrition Cluster report (2023) was published, South Sudan’s implementing plans were to scale up Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programmes (TSFP) for pregnant and lactating women and girls across the whole country. In these programmes, a MUAC cut-off point of 23 cm is used for individual targeting and the BEP supplement in the CSB++ form is provided up to 6 months postpartum, through health facilities or mobile teams.
Programmes for the prevention of malnutrition focus on resilience and emergency settings (refugee camps and IPC Phase 4 with pockets of populations in IPC Phase 5).
