Jordan has articulated a clear national commitment to improving women’s nutrition. One of the strategic objectives of the National Nutrition Strategy (2023–2030), led by the Ministry of Health, is to reduce anemia among women of reproductive age (WRA) by 40% and to strengthen evidence generation to inform policies and interventions.
In alignment with the latest global guidance, UNRWA, with support from Vitamin Angels and Johns Hopkins University, has developed a comprehensive implementation protocol and enhanced its operational readiness to transition from IFA to MMS.
The first pilot implementation, conducted between September 2022 and February 2023, distributed 2,315 bottles of MMS to pregnant women across two Health Centers. This pilot provided valuable insights into feasibility, acceptability, and service‑delivery adaptations required for scale‑up.
Despite this progress, Jordan faces significant challenges in supply‑chain management and sustainable financing for MMS.
The next critical step is to develop a costed national roadmap and a comprehensive financial plan to guide the transition to MMS.
