Driving Collective Action for Maternal Nutrition

The Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies (HMHB) Consortium plays a central role in advancing global advocacy for maternal nutrition, working to ensure that every woman has access to essential, evidence-based interventions for a healthy pregnancy and birth. As a global platform hosted by the Micronutrient Forum, HMHB brings together governments, donors, researchers, and implementers to translate evidence into action, influence policy, and accelerate the scale-up of life-saving nutrition interventions.

Why Advocacy Matters

Maternal malnutrition remains a critical global challenge, affecting millions of women and contributing to poor health outcomes for both mothers and newborns. HMHB’s advocacy efforts focus on addressing this gap by:

  • Raising awareness of the importance of maternal nutrition
  • Promoting evidence-based interventions such as Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) and Balanced Energy and Protein (BEP)
  • Driving policy change, financing, and program implementation

Through advocacy, HMHB aims to create an enabling environment where nutrition interventions are prioritized, funded, and effectively delivered at scale

Our Advocacy Approach

These resources empower national actors to advocate for stronger maternal nutrition programs.

  • 3. Convening and Coalition Building

HMHB convenes diverse stakeholders across sectors to build consensus and align priorities. By fostering collaboration among experts, governments, NGOs, and donors, the Consortium strengthens a unified global voice for maternal nutrition.

  • 4. Supporting National Advocacy
