Summary: Phase 1. Exploration phase to build an enabling environment

In Brazil, the Ministry of Health is working with several nutrition partners, including Sight and Life and Vitamin Angels, to explore the introduction of MMS in Brazil, where nearly one in five babies are born small and vulnerable—either preterm, small for gestational age, or low birthweight. In 2015, Sight and Life led a supply readiness assessment to understand the local manufacturing base and identify and test the potential for local production. Vitamin Angels initiated a supply context assessment in 2021 to further inform the introduction, implementation, and scale-up of MMS in the country. Brazil locally produces and imports MMS and the supplement can be purchased in pharmacies, supermarkets, or through e-commerce websites.
